About Lao
Infused with history. Designed for today.
Lao is a Canadian house dedicated to revealing the depth of tea. Every creation begins with an identifiable origin: a region, a terroir, a cultivar, a method of cultivation. We give tea the same attention, structure and ceremony the world reserves for fine wine, and we express it in a contemporary bottle made for the table.
It began in a small tea room in China. That same pursuit now lives in every bottle: to extract with care, to respect the terroir, to reveal the richness of the leaf. Lao is not a soda, a sweet mocktail or a kombucha. It is a sensory experience built on single-origin tea.
Two collections, one philosophy
Bulles de Thé (Sparkling Tea) bring a fine, precise effervescence to exceptional single-origin teas, ideal for the apéritif and for moments of celebration. Thea Placida present tea as a still beverage of dense structure and long finish, made for tasting and for pairing with food.
Our sparkling creations were recognised at the World Alcohol-Free Awards 2024: a Gold Medal for the Gyokuro Okabe and a Silver Medal for the Mucha Tie Guan Yin.
Designed for the table
Each bottle comes in a 750 ml format and contains less than 0.5% alc./vol. Lao is poured where you would pour a great wine: at the apéritif, at dinner, when you receive. The teas travel from the shaded gardens of Okabe in Japan and the roasting kilns of Muzha in Taiwan to the high mountains of Guizhou and the ancient forests of Yunnan in China. Each bottle tells the story of a place, a climate and a craft.
Timeless, pure, minimal and honest, Lao is premium without ostentation. We are transparent about our ingredients, our methods and our inspirations, because the story of the tea is part of the pleasure.
Lao is not an alternative, but a destination.
